Kyneton Fire Brigade (CFA)

Kyneton is situated approximately 90kms NW of Melbourne on the Calder Freeway. The brigade responds to a large range of emergencies from House fires & Wildfires to Motor Vehicle Accidents and Hazmat Incidents.

Classified as a Structure/Wildfire Brigade, Kyneton Fire Brigade is the result of the voluntary amalgamation of the former Kyneton Rural and Urban Fire Brigades.

It responds to urban incidents in the town and surrounding areas, including houses, shops, factories, special risks such as hospital, aged care facilities, schools and sporting complexes. It also serves a significant rural and rural residential area and a substantial length of freeway and major roads. KFB is supported in these roles by neighbouring brigades at Malmsbury, Tylden, Langley, Spring Hill and Carlsruhe, and also supports them in their areas. The brigade is active in providing crews & appliances to local and statewide strike teams in times of need.

Various members have qualifications and experience including bushfire firefighting, structure firefighting, management of Hazmat (hazardous materials) incidents and other facets of rural and urban emergency response.

A number of members have qualifications and endorsements enabling them to contribute to Incident Management Teams at Incident Control Centres, and to contribute to training other CFA volunteers.

Members meet for brigade business monthly on the first Monday and train for skills maintenance and improvement on the remaining Mondays. Members are actively involved in acquisition of new skills and qualifications at CFA courses and at CFA training grounds at Huntly and Fiskville throughout the year.

The brigade has a busy calendar of Community Safety and engagement activities and regularly participates in community events.

A particular feature of KFB is its youth development programme - Junior Fire Brigade. Its operational members also include a high proportion of younger members between 16 and mid-twenties, as well as members of more mature years.

KFB is a long-standing participant in the CFA Championship programmes at Junior and Senior levels and performs creditably every year, including good placings and wins in the running and discipline competitions.
